We are always filled with great pride presenting our Fine and Rare wine auctions and August is no exception. An evening spent with family and friends over a bottle of fine wine is always enjoyable and we believe that there will be something for all palates and wallets in our latest offering.
This auction features no less than twelve wines with perfect scores of either 100 or 20/20. Not to mention the eight 99+ or 19.5/20 wines that also feature. These high scoring wines are across all sections of the catalogue covering vintages from the early and mid-90s through to more recent vintages.
The New Zealand section gets us underway with the usual suspects, and also features numerous vintages of Stonyridge, Destiny Bay and Te Whau from Waiheke, as well as numerous vintages of Coleraine dating back to the 80s. Be sure to check out the perfect scored 2013 Te Mata Coleraine or the 19.5/20 wines; 2013 Church Road Tom and 2009 Craggy Range The Quarry.
NZ pinots are always sought after, and we have some of the very best around. Leading the charge, we have many vintages of Felton Road. Valli and Gibbston Valley Reserve from the deep south, Pegasus Bay and Mountford from Waipara, and Dry River and Ata Rangi from Martinborough are able support.
Syrah gets a knowing nod with Craggy Range Le Sol having three vintages as well as Trinity Hill Homage 2014 scoring 19.5+/20.
We round out the New Zealand section with some succulent Chardonnays from Kumeu River, Neudorf, Felton Road and the first vintage of the Prophets Rock Cuvee aux Antipodes Blanc.
No auction in Australasia is complete without Penfolds and we have some of their best wines; headlining with Grange, Bins 707, 407, 128 and 389 as well as St Henri and RWT. Special mention must go to the 1977 Bin 28. The “lucky country” also showcases Henschke, Jim Barry Armagh and Ben Glaezter’s Amon Ra from South Australia as well as Cullen from West Australia.
Italy has its head held high with the 100-point 2006 Masseto leading the pack with Ornellaia, Tignanello, Sassicaia and Biondi Santi all jostling for position.
Things really start fizzing in the Champagne section with multiple vintages of Dom Perignon along with Louis Roederer Cristal 2009, MV Krug and a still pinot noir from Bollinger as well with their Coteaux aux Enfants.
The always popular Rhone section has some real gems with no less than seven wines with perfect scores.
The fastest growing category presently is Burgundy, and we have some absolute belters! Leroy, Rousseau, Roumier, Rene Engel and Albert de Villaine's own winery based in Bouzeron along with Chablis superstar Vincent Dauvissat with many vintages on offer. Plenty of wines there to bring a sparkle to one’s eye.
We have the last of our current batch of the 100-point 2001 Chateau d’Yquem in the Sauternes section and there are also many others in 375ml if you are looking for something a bit gentler on the wallet.
Bordeaux is always very popular, and it is easy to see why. This auction offers some of the great wines at great prices for the vintages available.
We finish the auction with the 100-point Quinta do Noval Nacional 2003 and the 99-point Dow's 2011.
As with buying any second-hand goods there can be risk. This risk can be mitigated through reviewing widely available vintage reports and critic reviews and imposing realistic expectations. The reward however, of a fine wine at its absolute peak of maturity, offering its full range of primary, secondary and tertiary flavours should be significant enough for most to negate the occasional disappointment.
So, if the risk-reward scales are deemed favourable, we have a lovely selection of wines at various stages of maturity available in our current auction. Happy browsing and please bid responsibly.
All bids are binding.
