Spring has sprung and our auctions continue to present plenty of opportunity to stock up the cellar or grab that trophy bottle for a special occasion. Our selection in this auction is vast and perfectly fitting for the long-promised sunnier times.
When one of our long-time consignors decided to rationalise their cellar, they presented us with the opportunity to showcase another Single Vendor selection as part of this auction. The first part of this auction is littered with blue-chip wines from New Zealand and a few from abroad. It demonstrates a penchant for Martinborough Pinots with multiple vintages of Dry River and Ata Rangi as well as many Bordeaux blends from Hawkes Bay and Waiheke – including a great representation from the fabulous 2013 vintage. A special treat for any Liverpool supporters out there with a couple of bottles of Claymore 2013 Reserve Shiraz adorned with the Liverpool crest and signature of the great Ian Rush. To finish this Single Vendor selection we have five wines from the highly rated 2010 Bordeaux vintage. This Single Vendor section will be Lots 1 through 114 and represents a great opportunity to back fill the cellar with iconic wines. You know Provenance is dear to our heart and these wines have all been professionally stored at The Fine Wine Delivery Company; and were sourced directly from FWDC or ex winery.
The second part of this auction is our usual mixed vendor section and is equally impressive. We start with the ever-popular New Zealand Bordeaux blends showcasing examples from the old Hawkes Bay favourites Te Mata Coleraine, Church Road Tom, Craggy Range and Paritua. ably supported by Waiheke’s Te Motu, Destiny Bay and Stonyridge Larose. The rest of Auckland deserves a mention with The Antipodean and Providence from Matakana and Clevedon’s finest Puriri Hills.
If Pinot Noir is more to your taste, we have some silky and sensuous wines with Dry River, Martinborough Vineyards and an older vintage of Ata Rangi. Bell Hill and Mountford Estate from North Canterbury and Felton Road, Prophets Rock and Valli from further down the road in Central Otago.
Our Syrah’s are making waves internationally and what could be better than Craggy Range Le Sol and Trinity Hill Homage from Hawkes Bay? To back up these superstars scroll the catalogue for Elephant Hill, Sacred Hill Deerstalkers, Man O’War and the Nanny Goat from Central Otago.
You'll also bump into some wonderful wines from the “west island” with Penfolds Bins 707, Block 42, Grange, St Henri and a magnum of Bin 60A. Also, for all the Pinot fans there are wines from Tasmania, Mornington Peninsula, Yarra Valley and Beechworth.
Italian wines are enjoying their day in the sun at present, and we have some of the best with Masseto, Carfaggio, Antinori’s Tignanello, Il Poggione and Biondi Santi from Tuscany. If you are looking for a lovely crisp dry white for summer check out the Arneis from Cordero di Montezmolo.
The late Didier Dagueneau needs no introduction for lovers of Loire, and we have more of the very collectable Silex on offer.
Aromatics galore stand proudly in the Alsace selection with Rolly Gassmann, Schlumberger, Gustave Lorentz, Trimbach and Lucien Albrecht.
For me the sparks really start to fly with the excellent range of wines we have from the Rhone. Chateauneuf du Papes from Charvin, Paul Avril’s Clos des Papes and a Beaucastel Blanc. If it is the Northern Rhone that takes your fancy cast your eye over Guigal, Rene Rostaing and Yves Cuilleron from Cote Rotie or perhaps a Chave St Joseph. All these wines have either come from a temperature-controlled cellar or from professional cellaring services so bid with confidence.
Burgundy – the wine of kings and the king of wine has some of the great names; Domaine Dujac Liger Belaire, Armand Rousseau, Jadot, Faiveley and Arnoux Lachaux The whites are equally pleasing with Clos de Mouches from both Chanson and Drouhin as well as many everyday drinkers from Albert Bichot.
If aged Bordeaux is more your style, we have vintages of Rothschilds; Lafite and Mouton, Margaux and Trotanoy all at realistic Reserves. These are nestled in the company of many great value Classed Growths and Bordeaux Superior.
Vintage Port has been on a great run of late and there are vintages from the 1970s – Grahams 1977 in magnum and Fonseca 2000 in both magnum and 375ml.
Older bottlings of Haig, Black and White, White Horse and Teachers highlight the blended whiskies with Old Grandad Bourbon at alcohol strengths to make one’s eyes water.
Bidding with The Wine Auction Room is easy and transparent. Our Start Prices genuinely start the sale of that item. When you bid with us, rest assured that if you are the top bidder with any Lot, it will be yours.
Finally, as with buying any second-hand goods there can be risk. This risk can be mitigated through reviewing widely available vintage reports, critic reviews, inspecting the detailed photographs for each lot, and setting realistic expectations. The reward however, of a fine wine at its absolute peak of maturity, offering its full range of primary, secondary, and tertiary flavours should be significant enough for most to negate the occasional disappointment. So, if the risk-reward scales are deemed favourable, we have a lovely selection of wines at various stages of maturity available in our current auction.
Best of luck with your bids and don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like to know about any of the wines. Please bid responsibly.
All bids are binding.
