The auctions are coming thick and fast with plenty of opportunity to stock up the cellar or grab that trophy bottle for a special occasion. Our selection in this auction is vast, suiting many tastes and purses; perfectly fitting as our last online auction for 2023, with a fire-cracking live streamed auction scheduled to close out the year.
INVESTORS TAKE NOTE: globally fine wine prices have flattened with predictions of steady increases across 2024, making now a great time to pick up iconic wines available in this auction. And remember, at The Wine Auction Room, if you are the top bidder that Lot will be yours. There’s no need to guess Reserves.
We start with the ever-popular New Zealand Bordeaux blends showcasing examples from the old favourites including Stonecroft, Craggy Range, Church Road, Te Mata’s Awatea and Coleraine, ably supported by Waiheke’s Destiny Bay, Te Motu, Te Whau, Goldwater and Stonyridge.
If Pinot Noir is more to your taste, loiter amongst these silky and sensuous wines from Dry River in Martinborough, or from the South Island we have Pegasus Bay from Waipara, Two Paddocks, Amisfield, Chard Farm, Peregrine, Prophets Rock, Gibbston Valley and Felton Road all from Central Otago. Now that’s making a statement!
New Zealand Syrah is making waves internationally and what could be better than Dry River from Martinborough or Te Mata Bullnose Providence and Sacred Hill from Hawkes Bay. With Providence, Sam Harrop and Man O’War from Tamaki Makaurau.
Lovely, aged chardonnays and aromatics round out our New Zealand section jostling for a seat at your dinner table in the festive season. For me and Mrs Wine Auction Room the chardonnays from Pyramid Valley and Kumeu River are always welcome at our table. The aromatics are equally impressive with Framingham, Neudorf, Mischa’s Vineyard and the delicious Johanneshof Cellars Gewurztraminer.
If the wonderful wines from the “west island” are more to your liking there is an abundance of great value wines, many with a few years under their belt. Older vintages of Wolf Blass Black Label, Rockford Basket Press Shiraz, Jim Barry Armagh from South Australia. Yarra Yering from Victoria has long been a favourite of ours and we’re very excited by their offerings in this auction.
Germany is incredibly strong with world-class examples of Riesling covering many must weights from producers such as Donnhoff, Fritz Haag, Joh Jos Prum, Dr Loosen and the fantastic Egon Muller.
Italy not only has the worshipped wines of Gaja, Ornellaia and Masseto but also great everyday drinkers from Cordero Montezemolo with their Barbera and Arneis. Older vintages at great Start Prices are in abundance!
Champagne features a selection of interesting wines and producers including Perrier Jouet, Bollinger, Pol Roger, Krug and Louis Roederer Cristal.
Alsace really steps up with Domaine Weinbach, Hugel and Lucien Albrecht.
The Rhone continues in its rich vein of form with Guigal including Lalas, Chapoutier, Yves Cuilleron, Ferraton, Rene Rostign and Chave in the north up against Beaucastel and Pegau from Chateauneuf du Pape in the south.
Burgundy – the wine of kings and the king of wine! This sale offers some of the great names with Domaine de la Romanee Conti leading the way with Dujac, Roumier, Liger Belaire, Marquis d’Angerville and Armand Rousseau in the reds and Chablis superstar Dauvissat out front in the whites.
If aged Bordeaux is more your style, we have Classed Growths as well as many Bordeaux Superior and Cru Bourgeois covering five decades. Realistic pricing on these aged wines gives everyone the opportunity to imbibe.
Finally, as with buying any second-hand goods there can be risk. This risk can be mitigated through reviewing widely available vintage reports, critic reviews, inspecting the detailed photographs for each lot, and setting realistic expectations. The reward however, of a fine wine at its absolute peak of maturity, offering its full range of primary, secondary, and tertiary flavours should be significant enough for most to negate the occasional disappointment. So, if the risk-reward scales are deemed favourable, we have a lovely selection of wines at various stages of maturity available in our current auction.
Best of luck with your bids and don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like to know about any of the wines.
Please bid responsibly. All bids are binding.
