Our latest Live auction comes hot on the heels of our latest online only auction and it is a doozy! We present all our auctions like a new parent and we are especailly proud of this one.
The New Zealand Bordeaux blend section is littered with original cases of both Stonyridge Larose and Te Mata Coleraine. These are ably supported by a number of wines from both 1998 and 2013, vintages that everyone should have in the cellar, as well as Church Road TOM, Destiny Bay, Puriri Hills and LVCA.
While the Pinot Noir section isn't as large as we have had in the past it is bursting with top producers including Escarpment and Craggy Range from Martinborough, Bell Hill from Waikari and the fabulous Felton Road both Blocks 3 and 5 in quantities that are normally unavailable for the Friends of Felton Road database.
It seems the battlelines for the best region producing Syrah have been drawn and it is a battle between Auckland (especially Waikeke) and Hawkes Bay. Man O'War puts it's best foot forward for us Auks while Coopers Creek, Te Mata Bullnose, newcomer Helio and Trinity Hill Homage reply with their own superstars.
Chardonnays are always a favourite at our table and what's not to love about Prophets Rock, Helio, LVCA, Kumeu River and Bell Hill?
We've got some heavy hitters coming out of South Australia with wines from Ben Glaetzer, Elderton and Torbreck's RunRig jostling with Penfolds Bin 407, multiple vintages of Grange Bin 95 and St Henri. A highlight for me is the Leeuwin Art Series Chardonnay from Margaret River never fails to impress.
Germany’s Riesling mastery shines with Fritz Haag and Willi Schaefer from the Mosel along with Donnhoff from Nahe.
The Itailian section glistens with quality especially from Piedmont with Gaja and Produttori del Barbaresco and Tua Rita, Il Poggione, Fontodi and Felsina from Tuscany leading a larger than normal section.
Champagne starts the French section and what better way to start than 1996 Dom Perignon!
The Loire is long and meandering as one should be when drinking it's wines. Well-known superstars like Dagueneau, Marc Bredif and Coulee de Serrant surroundedby many Sancerres and the occasional Pouilly Fume.
The big, soft and warm wines of the Rhone are great drinking this time of year and whats not to like about Guigal La Mouline, Rene Rostaing and Jean-Louis Chave from the North surrounded by many equally awesome wines from the South.
A higher than normal amount of Pommard leads the Burgundian line-up with a very impressive range of Chablis with William Ferve and Vincent Dauvissat being very tempting.
And then we get to Bordeaux. Whether you prefer the Right or the Left Bank we have something for you. From the right we have muliple vintages of Cheval Blanc including 1982, 1985 and 1990. From the Left we have 1982 Lafite along with fellow first Growths Mouton and Latour. Latour's Pauillac makes it's first appearance in our auctions and offers some value compared to its more reknown sibbling. There is also some real value in the Bordeaux section with a number of second wines from famous producers.
Arbeg, the smokiest of the Islay single Malts, puts it best foot forward with a rare 2 Glass Gift Pack and the very (very) limited Perpetuum 47.4%.
As with buying any second-hand goods there can be risk. This risk can be mitigated through reviewing widely available vintage reports and critic reviews and imposing realistic expectations. You will also notice that our photographs of each new lot are very detailed, helping you to inspect the wine from the comfort of your seat. The reward however, of a fine wine at its absolute peak of maturity, offering its full range of primary, secondary and tertiary flavours should be significant enough for most to negate the occasional disappointment. So, if the risk-reward scales are deemed favourable, we have a lovely selection of wines at various stages of maturity available in our current auction.
Happy browsing and please bid responsibly.
