October Online Fine Wine & Spirits Auction
Bidding now open – closes Monday 13 October, 8pm
Spring has finally shaken off winter’s chill. The days are stretching longer, the air is warmer, and the pull to gather with friends over good food and great wine is stronger than ever. After too many months of “living small,” it feels right to bring out the glassware, set the table, and celebrate togetherness again. And what better way to do that than with a cellar refresh?
This October Online Auction is brimming with fresh-to-market wines and spirits ready to claim their place in your collection (and your glass). From New Zealand icons to European classics, it’s a world tour in one catalogue.
We begin at home with the powerhouses of Hawke’s Bay – including the legendary 2013 Te Mata Estate Coleraine and the iconic 2005 Church Road Tom. These are benchmarks of New Zealand winemaking and still some of the most collectible reds produced on our shores. Add in a large-format 2016 Coopers Creek Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 3000ml from the Gimblett Gravels and you’ve got wines designed for both celebration and cellaring. A selection of some of New Zealand’s best Chardonnay and even a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc bring brightness to this sale, while older vintages remind us of just how well New Zealand whites can age
Cross the Tasman and the mood shifts to bold and generous. Barossa Shiraz is here in all its glory, alongside cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Tasmania and Victoria. The mix of vintages shows Australia’s remarkable range – from structured and cellar-worthy to plush and ready to pour.Across the ditch, Of note is 2004 Penfolds Bin 60A Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz, one of the most famous blends in the country’s history. Alongside this, you’ll find the powerful 2005 Penfolds Cellar Reserve Cabernet/Shiraz and Margaret River’s elegant 2009 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon – all proof of Australia’s breadth and brilliance.
Beyond our shores, there are gems tucked away from regions like Argentina and North America, offering a chance to explore outside the familiar lanes.
For those with a taste for precision and purity, the German Rieslings are irresistible. Highlights include 2021 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Spätlese (Mosel), 2020 Donnhoff Niederhauser Hermannshöhle Spätlese (Nahe), and a luscious 2015 Kerpen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese (Mosel). From dry, mineral-driven bottlings to those with a whisper of sweetness, these wines carry that signature German precision that makes them such versatile companions at the table.
La Dolce Vita in a bottle. Barolo and Barbaresco flex their Nebbiolo muscle, while Tuscany offers up Chianti and Super Tuscans that pair perfectly with long, languid dinners. Italy’s renaissance on the secondary market is well underway and this is your chance to see why. Tuscan royalty shines with 2015 & 2016 Il Poggione Vigna Paganelli Brunello di Montalcino Riserva and the rich 2019 Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno Toscana IGT. These are wines with pedigree, power, and longevity – perfect for both drinking and investing.
Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and more, Spain delivers wines that balance tradition with vibrancy. These Spanish entries bring serious star power. None more so than 2013 Vega-Sicilia Único (Ribera del Duero) – one of the most sought-after wines in Spain. Pair that with 2010 La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 890 Rioja and 2004 Vega Sicilia ‘Pintia’ Toro, and you have a trio that captures the soul of Spanish winemaking. These reds are built for both immediate enjoyment and further aging
No cellar is complete without the French touch. The classics never go out of style. From Bordeaux’s Left and Right Bank stalwarts to Burgundy’s elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Champagne’s celebratory sparkle, and the Rhône’s deep, spicy Syrah blends – this section is the heart of any cellar worth its salt. This auction offers Champagne royalty with 2002 Dom Pérignon Vintage Brut and the crystalline 2008 Louis Roederer Cristal Millésimé Brut. For those who collect for both pleasure and prestige, these sparkling legends need no introduction.
When the evening lingers and dessert is served, nothing rounds it out like a glass of Port. This auction features treasures such as the 1968 W & J Graham’s Malvedos Vintage Port alongside the indulgent De Bortoli Old Boys 21-Year-Old Tawny. Both are reminders of the patience and craft behind fortified wines.
If amber is your colour, the whisky cabinet beckons. A standout here is the Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish (Highlands), a dram that weaves Highland elegance with Port-kissed depth.
Rounding out the catalogue are the unexpected delights, including a rarity like the 2021 Cardrona Distillery ‘The Reid’ Single Malt Vodka – Pear Harvest edition. With only 72 bottles made, this is a true curiosity for the adventurous collector.
This catalogue is your passport to flavour, heritage, and a season of shared glasses ahead. Browse, bid, and discover something new or simply rediscover an old favourite.
Auction closes Monday 13 October, 8pm
Reminder: all bids are binding.
Best of luck with your bids, and here’s to warmer days and fuller glasses.
Our final note: As with buying any second-hand goods there can be risk. This risk can be mitigated through reviewing widely available vintage reports and critic reviews and imposing realistic expectations. You will also notice that our photographs of each new lot are very detailed, helping you to inspect the wine from the comfort of your seat. The reward however, of a fine wine at its absolute peak of maturity, offering its full range of primary, secondary and tertiary flavours should be significant enough for most to negate the occasional disappointment. So, if the risk-reward scales are deemed favourable, we have a lovely selection of wines at various stages of maturity available in our current auction
