We have great hope for 2022 and what better way to kick start the year than with an online fine and rare wine auction at The Wine Auction Room. And a beauty it is too with everything you need for the summer season and beyond; mouth-watering aromatics from far flung places, great value chardonnays from these fine shores. We know there is something for everyone in this summery sale.
As we’re keeping our summer break close to home, we start the auction with this same focus. Stonyridge Larose heads the Cabernet and blends and sits alongside some wonderful pinots from some of our most renowned producers; Ata Rangi, Cloudy Bay’s Te Wahi, Quartz Reef, Prophets Rock and Felton Road.
Our Syrahs are making waves internationally and we have some of the best with Te Mata Bullnose, Trinity Hill, and Craggy Range Le Sol. The “west island” is also looking good with Shiraz from Two Hands, Torbreck Run Rig and what Australian section could be complete without Penfolds Grange?
The curated and well cared for range of German Rieslings recently consigned has been a joy to present and we continue to offer these world class wines including Joh. Jos. Prum, Donnhoff and Egon Muller.
Further south in the continent (and the catalogue) you’ll find Bolgheri superstar Masseto rubbing shoulders with Piedmont royalty in Vietti, Paolo Scavino and Gaja from Italy.
We never tire of Champagne, and whilst it was front and centre during the festive season, it really is one of the greatest wines to share with friends, family and loved ones whatever the occasion. This sale features the excellent Laurent Perrier Cuvee Alexandra Rose, up-and-comers Chartogne-Taillet, Leclerc and Jacques Lassigne.
Alsace again has the hugely admired Zind Humbrecht and Weingut Weinbach putting their best foot forward.
Rhone continues to offer a great selection with wines from both the Northern and Southern Rhone to cast your eye over. This region has been a standout in our auctions of late so be sure not to gloss over all that’s on offer.
Our Burgundy range also continues to offer great buying. With several good vintages in a row over the last few years, the secondary market has been very busy as buyers recognise the value in the auctions compared to retail. And why wouldn’t they? Premier producers of white Burgundy such as Ramonet, Comte Lafon and Blain Gagnard are absolute bargains compared to the their current retail prices. Not to be outdone the red Burgundies from Dugat Py (no longer coming into NZ), Lamarche and Liger Belair (impossible to get your hands on) highlight this selection.
Aged Bordeaux from First Growths Chateaux Lafite Rothschild and Haut Brion champion this section and are well supported with great value wines; perfect for those lingering summer BBQs.
Then, to close out your evening, we have many fortified wines from South Africa from 1939, 1953, 1965 and 1966. All mouth-watering and then when surrounded by Mazurans from 1947, 1953 and 1968, this part of the catalogue really is something special. You may then be surprised to see more than our normal fare of spirits. This selection has a blend of everyday brands sidling up against some interesting and rarely seen variants.
So, as you can see, there truly is something for everyone. Scroll the catalogue, soak in the information we’ve provided, do your research, and put your best foot forward. And remember, when buying any second-hand goods there can be risk. This risk can be mitigated through reviewing widely available vintage reports and critic reviews and imposing realistic expectations. The reward however, of a fine wine at its absolute peak of maturity, offering its full range of primary, secondary and tertiary flavours should be significant enough for most to negate the occasional disappointment.
If the risk-reward scales are deemed favourable, we have a lovely selection of wines at various stages of maturity available in our current auction. Happy browsing and please bid responsibly.
All bids are binding.
