The impact of COVID19 has been profound for the hospitality industry - and for those who work within it. Nearly 170,000 Kiwis work within the NZ hospitality industry. We know them well - the barista who makes our morning coffee, the waiter at our local spot, the chef behind our favourite meal, the bartender who serves our favourite drink, and the friendly voice who takes our order and assures us it will be ready in 10!
Those familiar faces who take such care to look after us, valued members of our “hospo family”, are doing it tough at the moment. Right now, for many, their focus is not putting food on the table for customers - but on putting food on the table for themselves and their families.
So, a small group of people put their heads together to talk about how they could help quickly, resulting in #helpforhospo.
Blair Duncan, of Red+White Cellar, was moved to act after hearing stories from within the industry of people needing assistance - particularly those trying to support dependents. Blair’s initial donation of $10,000 has now been matched by others and #helpforhospo created as a means to distribute those funds.
The Wine Auction Room is the selected partner to auction the epically generous donations from our NZ wineries. Names that you will know well. This auction is not your typical auction - not least of all because 100% of proceeds will go to those hospitality workers. The wineries have kindly donated thousands of dollars of product which has all been listed at NO RESERVE. We've identified the value of each lot to help you with your purchasing decisions. To help you go that little bit further, NO FEES will be added to your bid price. That is, you will not incur the usual buyer's premium fee of 17.5% meaning you can stretch that little bit further with your bids.
