We’re very excited to bring to you our September Fine and Rare Wine auction. In my experience of working with wine auction houses in New Zealand and Australia I have rarely come across such great cellars where the owners have invested heavily in their care of their wines with temperature controlled cellars. When looking through this catalogue you will see wines that are 30 years old with very little, if any, ullage.
There are some great wines in this auction and far too many to mention all in this brief introduction but highlights from New Zealand include large format Antipodean from Matakana, an OWC of Te Motu 1993 (one of Auckland’s finest vintages), an OWC of 1998 Esk Valley Terraces, magnums of Central Otago Pinot, Stonyridge Larose and we still have OWC Destiny Bay from Waiheke.
Australia too has many highlights with Penfolds Grange from the 80’s covering many vintages, an OWC of Jim Barry Armagh, three vintages of Henschke Hill of Grace, Clarendon Hills Astralis (this wine gets huge money in the USA) and an up and coming superstar from Ben Glaetzer with his Amon Ra covering many vintages.
We are also fortunate to have Piedmont superstar Gaja from Italy with bottles and magnums. These are all very highly rated wines by the scribes and a great opportunity as these wines aren’t normally as available on the secondary market as we have in this auction.
The Rhone is well represented with wines from Rayas and Beaucastel Hommage to Jacques Perrin from the south and a couple of vintages of Paul Jaboulet La Chapelle Hermitage.
But I think that Bordeaux is going to be very hard to beat in this auction with the most First Growths I have been able to bring to auction in any of the auction houses I have worked for. There are First Growths from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000. We have Lynch Bages and Cos d’Estournel from the great 1982 vintage. A couple of vintages of d’Yquem for the Sauternes fans (of which I am one!) – all from temperature controlled cellars. The fill levels on the 1982’s are fantastic for their age.
If it is big format bottles you are looking for we have magnums and 5 and 6 litre bottles from NZ, USA and a wonderful 6 litre bottle of Chateau Leoville Barton 1982. Leoville Barton have confirmed to us that this was one of only 150 produced in 1982.
As always please call if you have any questions about any of the wines in this auction – we are here to help and will give our honest opinion on any of the wines we are presenting.
Happy bidding!
