This auction runs until 8pm, Monday 2 March so get in quick and don’t miss out!
New Zealand
We start off our journey around the wine world at home in New Zealand. Here you’ll find fantastic selections of Hawke’s Bay Bordeaux blends with some stunning cellar aged bottlings from legendary vintages 1998, 2002, 2013 and 2016. Look for Te Mata (both Coleraine and Awatea), Grand Reserve Wines from Church Road and Mills Reef Elspeth and more.
Bordeaux blends are followed by an ample offering of supple New Zealand Pinot Noir. Here we have both top flight wines for the cellar (Felton Road, Valli, Greystone, Ata Rangi and Dry River) rubbing shoulders with some great value bottles for weeknight drinking including Central Otago stars Roaring Meg and Providore (with many starting at $20 or less). If Syrah is more your speed then we have some exciting bottles… There are classics like Trinity Hill (Homage and Gimblett Gravels), Church Road Tom and Te Mata Bullnose.
For our March auction, the clarity and precision of ageworthy New Zealand whites also shine through. This includes focused acid-driven Riesling, vibrant Sauvignon Blanc and rich, complex Chardonnay. Highlights include wines from Dry River, Felton Road, Craggy Range, Pegasus Bay and many more…
Australia and the Americas
We have a small but select offering from both Australia and the USA this month. There are some fantastic value buys including big Aussie reds and Cali Chardonnay (with multiple lots starting at $25 and under) alongside classics from Penfolds and Dominus and some cult bottlings like Chardonnay from Margaret River’s Xanadu, Nebbiolo from Beechworth’s Giaconda and four vintages of the acclaimed Cult Californian Cab Blend Continuum, made by the Mondavi family with less than 100 bottles of this wine imported into NZ each year.
Germany
Germany offers a selection of excellent bottles from top producers, all with a starting price of $100 or under. Not only do we have fantastic Riesling from top producers like Loosen, Egon Muller and Donhoff but we also have fantastic Spatburgunder (i.e. German Pinot Noir) from acclaimed producers, Koehler-Ruprecht.
Italy
Our March Auction is packed with fantastic Italians… here you’ll find the classic regions of Tuscany and Piedmont including stunning Barolo and Super Tuscans like Ornellaia, Massetto and Sassicaia next to top-tier bottlings from Sicily, Friuli and more.
Spain
Our Spanish selection is packed full of icon wines from Ribera de Duero (including the ‘95 Unico from Bodega Sicilia which has scored 97/100 from Decanter and The Wine Advocate) and Rioja including the legendary Tondonia Reserva Blanco from R.Lopez de Heredia. As well as these we have a few natural rarities like Corpinnat from Mas Candi (think a more serious alternative to Cava), Macabeo from Celler Escoda-Sanahuja and a bottle of the super-rare and highly acclaimed vinos de pastos (i.e. unfortified sherry) from De la Riva.
France
March has a lot in store for lovers of the classic wines of France! As always we start in Champagne with a focus on truly sensational cult grower Champagne from Jaquesson, Agarapart, Jerome Prevost, Pierre Peters and Laherte Freres. There are also some wonderful vintage and non-vintage bottles from Tattinger, Moet, Billecart-Salmon, Perrier-Jouet and Laurent-Perrier.
These are followed by aromatic whites from Alsace and the Loire. Look for wines from Huet, Schoffit and Domaine Weinbach.
Our Rhone offering focuses on rich, Grenache-dominant Southern Rhone offerings like Gigonas and Chateauneuf-du-papes including producers like Chateau Beaucastel, Paul Avril and Clos du Cailloux with a few Syrah gems like Cote Rotie from Guigal and Jaboulet.
Burgundy features heavy hitters like DRC Corton and Echezeaux, De Vogue Musigny, Rulot Meursault and Rousseau Gevry-Chambertin. For those of you who love NZ Pinot Noir but don’t know where to start have a look at these approachably priced Premier Cru wines from Roger Belland, Denis Bachelet and David Moreau. They really do offer a great jumping off point to broader wine horizons.
Bordeaux offers value across the price spectrum with everything from wines starting at just $20 a bottle through to a Magnum of the 100 point ‘03 Latour. There are excellent vintages of icon wines like Mouton-Rothschild, Cheval Blanc and Lafleur as well as 2nd and 3rd growth wines like Calon-Segur, Leoville-Barton and their Pomerol equivalent Chateau Hosana.
If you’re looking for something from the road less travelled we have some great bottles from the Jura, Beaujolais and the Languedoc.
Fortifieds and Spirits
March offers some excellent vintage port from Warre’s, Callum and Niepoort with our amazing vendors doing the hard yards of aging them for you. There is also Millenium Bottling Olorsos from Gonzales Byass and 21 Year Old Tawny from De Bortoli.
When it comes to spirits we have rare whisk(e)y (with Scotland, the USA and NZ all represented) and some great value NZ Craft Gin and UK classics allowing you to restock your home bar after G+T season. Some liqueurs, glassware and accessories round off the auction.
