Just like that, it is Autumn! And to celebrate we’re hosting our Autumn Live Fine & Rare Wine Auction at 6pm, Tuesday 7 April NZST. You are warmly invited to join us either in person at our Eden Terrace HQ or via our livestream from the comfort of your office or living room.
This is an especially exciting lineup of wines representing the best of New Zealand and the world. With over 300 lots, there is a huge range of wines to this sale featuring a veritable treasure trove of wines; generous selections of top-flight New Zealand Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, cult bottlings from California and Australia and one of the largest selections of high-end Italian wines we’ve offered in quite some time.
Absentee bidding is now open.
New Zealand
We start off our catalogue close to home with classic NZ Bordeaux blends. Our Autumn Live Auction features nine vintages of the acclaimed Stonyridge Larose alongside wines from Craggy Range, Te Mata and Destiny Bay.
These are followed by an exemplary lineup of New Zealand Pinot Noir featuring top producers from Martinborough (Ata Rangi, Kusuda, Dry River), Central Otago (Felton Road, Prophet’s Rock, Valli) and North Canterbury (Bell Hill, Pegasus Bay). Pinot Noir is followed by Syrah featuring multiple super-premium bottlings from Trinity Hill standing side by side with Bilancia La Collina and Te Mata Bullnose.
When it comes to NZ whites, this auction features bottles from many of New Zealand’s very top Chardonnay producers including Kumeu River, Neudorf, Helio and wines from several top Pinot producers already mentioned: Dry River, Felton Road, Valli and Bell Hill. Chardonnay is followed by a small but enviable selection of aromatic and sweet whites from producers such as Craggy Range, Millton, Kusuda and Pegasus Bay.
Australia and the USA
Australia offers a lot for both investors and hard-core wine geeks this April. You’ll find multiple vintages of Penfolds Grange and 707 standing side-by-side with tightly allocated wines from Clarendon Hills (three vintages of Astralis), Yarra Yering and Cullen. Likewise our selection of wines from California is made up by multiple excellent vintages of cult Cabernet from two producers from the heart of Napa, Dominus by Christian Moueix and Continuum, made by Tim Mondavi both of which are only available in NZ in limited quantities (between 5 and 8 dozen of each imported annually).
Italy
The wonderful wines of Italy represent over ⅓ of this auction, many of which come from the cellar of a single dedicated Wellington collector. There is a truly phenomenal lineup of wines featuring the best of Tuscany, Piedmont and Sicily. From Tuscany we have everything from Chanti esteemed producers like Querciabella, Felsina and Istine; Brunello from top producers like Poggio di Sotto, Cassanova di Neri and Canalicchio di Sopra; and Super Tuscans from the likes of Bibi Graetz and Ornellaia.
From Piedmont we have top-flight Barolo and Barbaresco from the greats with multiple bottings of Angelo Gaja, Produttori del Barbaresco, Vajra and E Pira & Figli. Sicily offers a number of bottles from the acclaimed Tenuta delle Terre Nere, an esteemed producer of Carricante whites and Nerello Masaclese dominant reds.
France
Champagne starts off our French adventure with multiple vintages of Dom Perignon alongside Vintage Krug, Cristal, Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque and Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill.
These are followed by spicy Rhone reds; multiple vintages of Paul Avril’s acclaimed Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Papes alongside all three Guigal La Las (La Turque, La Mouline and La Landonne) and 1995 and 2000 vintages of Chapoutier Ermitage La Pavillon.
Burgundy features wines from Vincent Girardin, Leroy and Beaujolais from Nicolas Potel and well-respected, but relative newcomers, Lafarge-Vial.
Bordeaux is split between an enviable selection of sub-$200 wines from producers like Lynch-Bages, Lafon Rochet and Pontet-Canet; and an offering of First Growth wines from excellent vintages in the late 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s. The highlight of these is five vintages of Mouton: ‘86, ‘89, ‘93, ‘94 and ‘95. Margaux, Haut-Brion, Cheval Blanc and Lafleur also feature.
Port and Single Malt Whisky
The auction is completed with cellar-ready Vintage Port from Niepoort, Quinta Noval and Warre's alongside Single Malts from Cardhu, Springbank and The Macallan.
Happy bidding and good luck!
