The shortest day is almost here and our Winter Live Fine & Rare Wine Auction has a truly world-class lineup of wines to keep you warm during these cool nights. This auction is being hosted from our Eden Terrace HQ on Tuesday 2 June from 6pm NZST. You are invited to join us in person or bid via our livestream from the comfort of your living room.
There is something here for every collector, investor, geek or enthusiastic drinker, over 300 lots. This sale showcases kiwi classics from exceptional vintages, new-wave wines around the world, cellar aged Aussie Reds and Rioja, and a truly wonderful assortment of French greats: Burgundy, Bordeaux and Champagne including wines from DRC, Leroy, Krug and an ultra rare 1928 Leoville Les Cases.

New Zealand
As always we start off our LIVE auction with NZ Bordeaux; and our Winter auction features no fewer than seventeen vintages of Stonyridge Larose stretching back to 1996 and including the 2010, from a vintage often described as “greatest vintage ever on Waiheke Island”. This section also features Te Mata Coleraine, Church Road Tom, Ata Rangi Celebre and five vintages of Craggy Range’s acclaimed Merlot-Dominant Sophia going back to 2006.
Pinot Noir features wines from Rippon, Felton Road, Ata Rangi and more while NZ Syrah includes several vintages of Craggy Range Le Sol, Bilancia La Collina and Trinity Hill Homage alongside wines from Dry River and the no-longer-in-production Bridge Pa Vineyard.
As well as reds there is a strong lineup of classic New Zealand Chardonnay including a mini vertical of Kumeu River Mates Chardonnay (‘21 - ‘24), Te Mata Elston and highly awarded Villa Maria Single Vineyard Wines from their Keltern (Hawkes Bay) and Ihumatao (South Auckland) Vineyards. Our NZ wines are rounded off with Chenin, Viognier and cellar-aged Hawkes Bay dessert wine.
Australia
Penfold's stars in our Winter Auction offering with Grange from 1999 (100% Shiraz) and 2010 (RP99) as well as St Henri Shiraz, 707 Cabernet en Magnum and ‘97 389 Cabernet Shiraz. These are joined by icon reds from Yalumba, Yarra Yering, Wendouree and the Art Series Chardonnay from Leeuwin. Lovers of aged Aussie wines will be excited by wines from Barossa Valley Estate, Wolf Blass and Coonawarra icons Mildara while fans of new-wave wines will enjoy “granitic” syrah from Beechworth’s Castagna alongside elegant Victorian Pinot from Giants Steps.
USA
Classic Napa Cabs lead the way here with multiple vintages from Dominus and Continuum.
Italy
Italy takes us off the beaten track and while Tuscany makes an appearance, there are some stunning whites from Friuli (Schiopetto, Cantina Terlano and Vie de Romans) and Cru Soave from Pieropan. If you’re looking to keep warm over winter there are also Sicilian gems from Tenuta delle Terre and ‘17 Montevetrano di Silvia Imparato, described by Robert Parker as, “Sassicaia of the South”.
Spain
Spain brings a selection of wonderful selection of Tempranillo and Grenache dominant wines with a veritable whos-who of Rioja producers from ultra-traditional to ultra-modern including Remirez de Ganuza, Bodegas Contador, La Rioja Alta, Muga, CVNE and more… When it comes to Grenache there are top-tier wines from Priorat including Costers del Priorat, Clos Mogador and Bodegas Mas Alta and wines from La Mancha.
France
Almost ½ this auction is dedicated to the classic wines of France, starting with Prestige Cuvée Champagne from Krug, Cristal, Perrier-Jouet and hip-hop favorite Armand de Brignac aka. Ace of Spades made by the Cattier family.
Aromatic whites from Alsace follow with Grand Cru wines from Marcel Deiss (the multi-variety Altenberg de Bergheim) and Trimbach (Cuvee Frederic Emile and Clos de Ste Hune Rieslings). These are followed by Chenin from the Loire including wines from Domaine Guiberteau and Clos Naudin. There is also a well curated selection of Rhone whites including Hermitage Blanc (Chave, Chapoutier and Domaine de la Chapelle), Chateauneuf Blanc (Beaucastel and Vieux Telegraphe), Condrieu (Yves Cuilleron and more…) and Marsanne from Saint Peray (Domaine du Tunnel and Alain Voge).
The Rhone also brings powerhouse reds, most notably Chateauneuf-du-Pape from Domaine de Solitude and Clos des Papes. Bordeaux offers some fantastic wines, both from recent vintages but also from deep in the cellar… Highlights include 05 Chateau Eglise (RP100), 2015 Leoville La Cases and La Mission Haut-Brion (both RP98), Magnums and a bottle of 1928 Leoville La Cases in impeccable condition given its age - if you know anyone celebrating a 98th birthday this year, this would be an amazing gift!
Despite being able to offer some of the very best of Burgundy in recent months, June does not disappoint. At the top end we have 1999 Leroy Richeboug and Romanee-Saint-Vivant; four lots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair (including 09 and 02 La Romanee); and ‘11 Romanee St Vivant, ‘12 Echezeaux and ‘13 Corton from Domaine de la Romanee Conti. If these are out of your budget (and we wouldn’t blame you) there is an amazing selection of mostly Grand and Premier Cru wines with reserves between $100 and $500 including wines from Dugat-Puy, Denis Bachelet, Frederic Esmonin and Nicolas Potel.
Fortified Wines and Spirits
The auction is brought to a close with sherry (both sweet and dry), vintage Port from Grahams, rum from Appleton and single malt whisky from The Macallan.
