Late Autumn Rare & Fine Wine Online Auction
As the days get cooler and the nights get longer we are proud to be able to offer a world-class selection of wines, fortified and spirits for our Late Autumn Rare and Fine Online Wine Auctiojn.
This auction has something of everything, and with almost 60 lots with reserves between $5 and $30 there is definitely something out there for bargain hunters. Lovers of serious wine and whisky are also well taken care of with generous offerings from classic producers, true cult icons and even some future-classics from up-and-comers. This auction also has an extremely compelling and diverse collection of spirits including Baijiu, Rum, Pisco, Scotch and American Whisky.
New Zealand
In keeping with tradition our auction kicks off with a select range of classic Bordeaux blends from Hawke’s Bay, Waiheke and West Auckland. This features wines from big-names such as Te Mata and Stonyridge but also some fantastic sleeper wines from the likes of Gimblett Gravels pioneers Unison and Stonecroft and the always exceptional Alpha Domus. Those of you looking for wines with a little bit of age will be pleased to see excellent vintages from Coopers Creek, Sacred Hill and Goldwater.
Our New Zealand Pinot Noir selection has an especially rich offering of wines from Central Otago which features producers like Gibbston Valley, Rockburn, Two Paddocks, Peregrine and Cloudy Bay Te Wahi. For those of you who prize rarity, we’d like to highlight three different vintages of the incredibly rare Central Otago Celebration Pinot Noir, of which a single barrel is blended (by Felton Road’s Blair Walters) each vintage to raise money for various Central Otago charities and features an artist-label from acclaimed local artists. Looking further afield, this auction also features Pinot Noir from Margrain, Seresin, Neudorf and Pegasus Bay.
The combination of Syrah and other NZ reds offers excellent drinking as the nights grow colder with multiple bottlings from Te Awanaga Estate, Decibel and more. Those who enjoy lighter reds will be interested in the Easthope Gamay Noir, a variety that the ex-Craggy Range Winemaker Rod Easthope is becoming well known for.
Our collection of NZ wines in our Late Autumn Auction is completed by an excellent range of NZ whites. Chardonnay features bottles by Man O’ War, Tony Bish, Dry River and more while classic NZ aromatic styles are also represented: Riesling from Pegasus Bay, Gewurtraminer by Stonecroft and Chenin from Martinborough’s Margrain.
Australian and New World Wines
Our ‘other new world’ selection is split down the middle with a super-fun range of value buys with reserves between $8 and $20 including rich warm climate reds, Chardonnay (and blends) from the USA and South Africa and even a cheeky sweetie.
These are followed by a range of more serious, collectable reds: Oregon Chardonnay. Chile’s classic Bordeaux Blend Vina Almaviva alongside multiple vintages of Continuum Cabernet made by Tim Mondavi and Christian Moueix’s Dominus, an equally well-regarded Napa benchmark wine.
Italy
There is a truly wonderful selection of Italian wines in our Late Autumn Rare & Fine Wine Online Auction, representing about 20% of the overall auction with the best of Tuscany, Piedmont, Sicily and Friuli all having something to offer.
The selection of Tuscan wines is headlined by three vintages of the 100% Merlot Masseto (‘01, ‘03 and ‘05) and Jeroboams of Ornellaia 2000 and 2001. Tuscany also features top-flight Chianti from the likes of Istine, Rocca di Montegrossi and Aricola Querciabella; Brunello from Altesino, Canalicchio di Sopra and more; and Super-Tuscans from Le Macchiole and Felsina.
The wines of Piedmont are largely represented by the majestic wines of Barolo featuring producers like Angelo Gaja, Cappellano, Elio Altare and more; while Sicily offers a selection of volcanic wines from producers like Tenuta Benanti and Tenuta delle Terre Nere. For those of you with an interest in the esoteric and the natural, we also have five vintages of amber wine from Friuli’s Josko Gravner, widely regarded as one of the masters of the genre… These are firm, noble, structured wines; more like tannic reds; a stark contrast to many orange wines made in NZ.
France
The wines of Champagne strike a celebratory tone with Prestige Cuvée wines from Dom Perignon, Krug, Laurent-Perrier and Perrier-Jouet sitting side by side with cult grower bottlings from Agrapart, Perrier Peters and the legendary Jacquesson.
These are followed by whites from both the Loire and Alsace with producers like Huet Vouvray and Domaine Weinbach well represented. Next, an enviable selection of wines from the Rhone. From the North we have Cote Rotie from Guigal (all three La Las as well as Chateau d'Ampuis) and from the South we have benchmark Chateauneuf in the form of ‘07 and 13 Chateau de Beaucastel Hommage a Jacques Perrin and Gigondas from Domaine Brusset.
From Burgundy we have a compelling offering of Premier Cru and Grand Cru rends including wines from Gachot Monot, Denis Bachelet and more and top-flight white Burgundy including the extremely rare Raveneau Chablis, Henri Boillot Puligny Montrachet and Roulot Meursault.
Bordeaux offers a selection of excellent vintages from First Growth Estates including a magnum of the 100 Point ‘03 Chateau Latour, ‘12 and ‘17 Chateau Margaux and 1990 Chateau Cheval Blanc. Lesser Growths are also well represented with wines from Clerc Milon, Calon Segur and Brane Cantenac also on offer. For those looking for something with a bit more age we are overjoyed to be able to offer wines like the 1945 Lafite Rothschild, 1967 Margaux and 1989 Chateau Beychevelle.
Port and Spirits
Finishing off the auction we have a world-class selection of fortified wines and spirits. From Vintage Port from Quinta do Vesuvio and Warre’s to rare single malts from Glenfiddich and The Macallan there is something for every collector… Look out for Baijiu from Guiren Tian Chao Shang Pin and Guizhou Maotaizhen, rare old US whisky from Woodford Reserve and rum from Appletons. As well as imports we have vintage port as well as NZ Tawnies from Corban’s, and more recent bottlings from Shed Five Thirty in Hawkes Bay alongside limited release whisky and vodka from Cardrona Distillery.
Happy bidding and good luck!
