Welcome to our Mid-Winter Rare & Fine Wine Online Auction, a perfect opportunity to stock up on weighty wines to keep you warm over winter. This auction is headlined by some truly iconic wines from Burgundy (DRC, Leroy), Bordeaux (Haut Brion, Margaux and more) and Champagne (08 Krug Clos du Mesnil) but truly has something for every winelover, also featuring 40+ lots with reserves of $25 or less.
This auction runs from 11am Wednesday 24 June through to 8pm Monday 29 June.
New Zealand
This auction starts off strong with a diverse offering of NZ Bordeaux blends including recent vintages from top producers such as Te Mata (multiple vintages of both Coleraine and Awatea), Destiny Bay (Magna Praema and Mystae) and iconic Gimblett Gravels producers Trinity Hill, Stonecroft and Unison. These are complemented by cellar-aged wines from producers including Mills Reef Elspeth, Goldwater Estate and the 20/20 Villa Maria Ngakirikiri Cabernet.
Pinot Noir is next and features top-flight wines from the likes of Felton Road, Bell Hill, Devotus, Dry River and Pegasus Bay. As well as a range of icon wines there are also value buys from the likes of Odyssey and Ash Ridge. Along with Pinot Noir, Syrah also stars with multiple vintages of Trinity Hill Homage and Te Mata Bullnose alongside wines from Elephant Hill, Church Road and Te Awanaga Estate.
White wines feature next, starting with a wonderful selection of both classic and modern NZ Chardonnay including wines from Tony Bish, Neudorf, Kumeu River, Craggy Range, Pyramid Valley and multiple vintages of the truly fantastic Prophet’s Rock Cuvée Aux Antipodes Blanc. There is an excellent range of NZ aromatics including Riesling from Felton Road and Pegasus Bay; Gewurtz from Stonecroft and Dry River; Viognier from Alpha Domus and De La Terre and the no-longer-in-production Millton Clos de Ste Anne Chenin Blanc.
Australia
Australia brings classic, heavy-duty powerhouse reds including two lots featuring mid-late 1990’s bottlings of Wendouree, a mailing-list only producer. Alongside these are Penfold’s Grange, St Henri and Bin 60a and big reds from Noon, Yalumba and Zonte’s Footsteps. In contrast to the heavy reds, Australia also brings sappy Nero from Unico Zelo and cult Pinot Noir from Tasmania’s Tolpuddle and Mornington’s Ghostgum.
Other New World Wines
Here we have a selection of top Napa Cab including 99 Point scorers ‘09 Dominus and ‘16 Continuum as well as top-flight Argentine Malbec and Chardonnay from Cantena Zapata and great value Chardonnay with reserves of $18 and less from both California and South Africa.
Italy
Italy brings a wonderful selection of classic bottlings from both Tuscany, Piedmont and more. Tuscany features high-end Chianti and Brunello from producers such as Istine, Agricola Querciabella and Altesino alongside Super Tuscans like Ornelliaia and the fantastic Isole e Olena Cepparello. Barolo and Barbaresco from Piedmont feature next, including wines from Gaja, Giacosa and Roagna. Whites offer a little more diversity with cult bottlings from Umbria, Sicily, the Veneto and Friuli.
Spain
Spain offers a generous selection of Rioja from producers like La Rioja Alta S.A., Bodegas Contador and Remirez de Ganuza as well as high end Priorat and Ribera del Duero reds including Vega Sicilia Unico and Alion, both from exceptional vintages.
France
This auctions offering of the classic wines of France starts off with a wonderful range of classic whites: Vouvray and other Chenin Blanc from top producers like Clos Naudin and Domaine Guiberteau and more; rich Rhone whites including Yves Cuilleron Condrieu and Chave Hermitage Blanc as well as a number of whites from the predominantly Marsanne appellation, Saint Peray. There is a wonderful assortment of White Burgundy (38 lots) including Chablis from William Ferve, Vincent Dauvissat and Francois Raveneau; Meursault from Roulot, Henri Boillot and Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey; Montrachet from Jacques Carillon, Blain-Gagnard and Pierre Morey; and Corton Blanc from Remoissnet and Domaine Chandon de Briailles.
Rhone reds feature Guigal Côte Rotie and Chateauneuf from Clos des Papes while Red Burgundy brings the big guns: 1999 Leroy Richebourg, 2013 DRC Corton and 2000 Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin and Clos St Jacques. Bordeaux highlights include some wonderful wines including RP 100 point wines from Haut Brion (‘98 in a half bottle) and Eglise Clinet (2005). There are also some wonderful wines from other icon vintages like 2015, 2005 and 2000 and some older bottlings including 1990 Chateau Beycheville and 1928 Leoville Las Cases (in incredible condition given its 98 years).
